Veronique Gabai-Pinsky : nobody needs another fragrance

Veronique is the President of Aramis and Designer Fragrances for Estée Lauder Companies. Forbes magazine says that her job is a dream job. I’m not so sure about that. I would think it is like tightrope walking without a net. Too many flops and I can’t imagine you’d keep that dream job for long. But it might be fun to have her job for just one day.

Actually, Veronique’s actual quote was… “the great challenge of our business is that… nobody needs another fragrance so when you launch something to the market, good is simply not good enough.”  You can see Veronique on an excellent BBC special on perfume (see below).

I’ll be back next week with a perfume review.  Have a nice week!

Nobody needs another fragrance? I beg to differ! I need another fragrance (and another, and another, and another…)😀

  2. I have a couple of points to make.

Nobody needs a perfume, it’s a luxury item and is bought as such. And dazzling people with new luxury items is what gets them sold.

“when you launch something to the market, good is simply not good enough.” – are we looking at the same market?! Because from my experience it looks like the main goal of the most mass market launches is to, G-d forbid, not to launch anything that is even slightly different from everything else that is already on the market.

    • Good points! There IS a lot of crap out there. Sometimes I just want to retire this blog and move on to something else… but then, I’ll sniff something really beautiful… even some of the new stuff… and I figure I’ll hang around for a little while longer. Thanks for writing!
